WELCOME TO THE CFZ BLOG NETWORK: COME AND JOIN THE FUN

Half a century ago, Belgian Zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans first codified cryptozoology in his book On the Track of Unknown Animals.

The Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ) are still on the track, and have been since 1992. But as if chasing unknown animals wasn't enough, we are involved in education, conservation, and good old-fashioned natural history! We already have three journals, the largest cryptozoological publishing house in the world, CFZtv, and the largest cryptozoological conference in the English-speaking world, but in January 2009 someone suggested that we started a daily online magazine! The CFZ bloggo is a collaborative effort by a coalition of members, friends, and supporters of the CFZ, and covers all the subjects with which we deal, with a smattering of music, high strangeness and surreal humour to make up the mix.

It is edited by CFZ Director Jon Downes, and subbed by the lovely Lizzy Bitakara'mire (formerly Clancy), scourge of improper syntax. The daily newsblog is edited by Corinna Downes, head administratrix of the CFZ, and the indexing is done by Lee Canty and Kathy Imbriani. There is regular news from the CFZ Mystery Cat study group, and regular fortean bird news from 'The Watcher of the Skies'. Regular bloggers include Dr Karl Shuker, Dale Drinnon, Richard Muirhead and Richard Freeman. The CFZ bloggo is updated daily, and there's nothing quite like it anywhere else. Come and join us...

MYSTERIOUS CREATURES VOLUME ONE: A special offer from CFZ Press

We are very proud indeed to announce the publication of Volume One of our new edition of George Eberhart's classic work Mysterious Creatures. First published over ten years ago at a prohibitively high price of of nearly £200 for the two-volume set, we bought the rights to issue a budget edition from ABC Clio with the money raised at last year's Weird Weekend. Our edition, which has been updated and contains much new material and many new pictures, and is considerably longer, will be available at a special low price of £14.99 per volume.

In the hi-tech industrialised world of the 21st Century, monsters still loom large. Far from being relegated to the realm of myth and legend, mysterious creatures seem to be alive and well today. In this, the first of two volumes, acclaimed researcher George M. Eberhart provides a comprehensive list of the creatures that roam our monster-haunted planet. Covering ‘A to M’, Volume One tackles some well-known beasts as well as more esoteric creatures few will have heard of.
  • The Lau - A monstrous serpent one hundred feet long said to lurk in the Swamplands of Sudan
  • The Kalanoro - Hairy, cave dwelling dwarfs of Southern Madagascar
  • The Cigau - An aggressive big cat with elongated canine teeth; a possible surviving scimitar cat in the jungles of Sumatra
  • The Glowing Mudskipper - A bio-luminescent amphibious fish reported from Ceram in Indonesia
  • The Dobsenga - A possible surviving marsupial wolf from the mountains of New Guinea
  • The Lindorm - serpent dragons of the woods and lakes of Scandinavia
  • The Dobharchu - a giant man-eating otter from Ireland
  • The Mongolian Death Worm - A burrowing horror from the Gobi Desert that is said to spit yellow acid.
  • The Earth Hounds - Grave burrowing, corpse-eating creatures from rural Scotland.

These are just a few of the menagerie of weird beasts you will find in this remarkable book. Information on hundreds of enigmatic animals is to be found within its pages.

More things in heaven and earth indeed.

For a limited time only, you can buy Volume One at a special low price of £12.50/ $US18.99/ $AU21.99 (plus p&p). Please use the Paypal link below (Paypal will automatically convert from pounds sterling to dollars).
