WELCOME TO THE CFZ BLOG NETWORK: COME AND JOIN THE FUN

Half a century ago, Belgian Zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans first codified cryptozoology in his book On the Track of Unknown Animals.

The Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ) are still on the track, and have been since 1992. But as if chasing unknown animals wasn't enough, we are involved in education, conservation, and good old-fashioned natural history! We already have three journals, the largest cryptozoological publishing house in the world, CFZtv, and the largest cryptozoological conference in the English-speaking world, but in January 2009 someone suggested that we started a daily online magazine! The CFZ bloggo is a collaborative effort by a coalition of members, friends, and supporters of the CFZ, and covers all the subjects with which we deal, with a smattering of music, high strangeness and surreal humour to make up the mix.

It is edited by CFZ Director Jon Downes, and subbed by the lovely Lizzy Bitakara'mire (formerly Clancy), scourge of improper syntax. The daily newsblog is edited by Corinna Downes, head administratrix of the CFZ, and the indexing is done by Lee Canty and Kathy Imbriani. There is regular news from the CFZ Mystery Cat study group, and regular fortean bird news from 'The Watcher of the Skies'. Regular bloggers include Dr Karl Shuker, Dale Drinnon, Richard Muirhead and Richard Freeman. The CFZ bloggo is updated daily, and there's nothing quite like it anywhere else. Come and join us...

I'M YER GONZO BLOG DOO-DAH MAN

Once again I am in a surprisingly good mood. Yesterday's visit from Matthew and Emma went very well; Matthew is making great headway with the library, and Ems and I set up various things to do with next year's Weird Weekend. However, if the people who believe the Mayans are right and the world copmes to an end later this year, it will all have been a waste of time. The divine Ms H will be here later on and Richard Freeman arrives tomorrow. In the meantime, whilst writing this I have just taken delivery of 1000 composting worms, so all's right with the world.
We have a particularly groovy set of things for your delectation today, starting off with our daily visait to the universe of Thom The World Poet..

I have made a career collecting strange friends in all sorts of different areas of life. One of my mates is a guy called John Keeling who is a TV/Film director. I did an episode of an American TV show with him a couple of years ago and we kept in touch. When I started doing the Gonzo Daily back in March he wrote to me, and told me that he had been working on a treatment for a Hawkwind documentary some years ago. It never got made, but he was kind enough to let me have a copy, and to say that we could post it here on the Gonzo Daily.

Led Zeppelin, or at least their marketing department have once again tapped into the public zeitgeist, utililising a countdown on Facebook to fuel rumours of another reunion, and post details of the concert movie of the 2007 reunion (which I strongly suspect will end up being the last). The day after the show I was on YouTube trying to see as much of the show as I could before the lawyers had the clips taken down. A member of my close family (who I won't name for legal reasons) sent me a bootleg of the whole show, but - together with Zepheads from around the world - I have been waiting for the official release. Now its here, and I know what I want for Christmas..

I have been looking forward to speaking to Annie Haslam for a long time, not just because I have been a fan of her music for many years, but because she has always come over as such a nice person. Well, over the years I have been caught out by that on a number of occasions, when people who have seemed nice have turned out to be anything but, however Annie turned out to be even nicer than I had expected.

As regular readers will know, Michael Des Barres is soon to appear on an episode of NCIS which has been described as the most popular TV programme in the English speaking world.I have never seen it, mostly because I don't have a television aerial or a set-top box, and whilst Corinna and I occasionally watch DVDs we have far too much on our plates to watch TV. However, much to my embarrassment, I have had this exclusive photograph of Michael on the NCIS set for the past month, and not got around to posting it. Sorry guys.. but better late than never...

The new CD/DVD set of Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe live at Birmingham NEC is certainly garnering an immense amount of interest around the world..

Robert Fripp, one of the most talented freethinkers in rock music has quit the music business, describing it as “a joyless exercise in futility.” One cannot but feel for him. The music business as we know it is dead, but some of us are still capering around the funeral pyre making manaical whooping noises...

The Gonzo Daily is a two way process. If you have any news or want to write for us, please contact me at jon@eclipse.co.uk. If you are an artist and want to showcase your work, or even just say hello please write to me at gonzo@cfz.org.uk. Please copy, paste and spread the word about this magazine as widely as possible. We need people to read us in order to grow, and as soon as it is viable we shall be invading more traditional magaziney areas. Join in the fun, spread the word, and maybe if we all chant loud enough we CAN stop it raining. See you tomorrow...

The Gonzo Daily is - as the name implies - a daily online magazine (mostly) about artists connected to the Gonzo Multimedia group of companies. But it also has other stuff as and when the editor feels like it. The Editor is an old hippy of 53 who - together with his orange cat - puts it all together from a converted potato shed in a tumbledown cottage deep in rural Devon. He is ably assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his bulldog/boxer Prudence, and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we mention the orange cat?
