As you may know, Naomi and I are field investigators for MUFON. I recently received a call from the chief state investigaor. He knows we are avid crypto-enthusiasts. He asked us to look into a case of an owlman-type sighting in San Antonio. It seems that it had never been fully investigated and he wants us to follow up on the case. It occurred a while back in April 2009. Here is the description provided by the witness(es):

"I was talking on my cell at the end of my sidewalk by the steet when I turned around facing my house and saw this huge black man bird thing gliding without a noise coming from the east maybe the distance would be like three streets over but about maybe five blocks down.[which three steets over there isnt five blocks because the woods are two blocks down. When i saw this I was stunned and stared at it trying to figure out what it was and then I saw it wasnt anything Ive ever seen. I ran into the house and yelled at my husband and my grown son to get out here quick. They came but seemed like forever and they looked and saw it too. When they saw it they thing was like the a few streets over and then disappeared behind the big trees. When we saw it we all said that no one would believe us; but I have recently been talking about it because it has bothered me so much. I lived in this neighborhood all my life and I can remember of three UFO sightings since I was five and all the sightings were in this neighborhood or around Stinson Field airport. I never came forward about them because people think ya lost your ever loving mind until recently when others Ive spoke with shared their experiences. I have other stories but this one is the most recent and I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this thing. It is silent like it was a glider but I could see the body was exactly like a man a very large man. Thank you for listening to me and I hope you dont think we have gone mad too. I called my daughter and told her afterwards and thats what made my mind up to stay silent. I had my darn cell on my the whole time and not once thought of taking a picture it happened so fast and Im not that savy on the cell."

Naomi puts her ha'pennorth in; I wonder whether you can guess what she is reading.

BLANCO BLUE DOG: DNA results

We have just received the interim DNA results from the Blanco blue dog carcass. Richie and Naomi retrieved tissue samples last year and they have languished in Naomi's freezer ever since. The DNA report from Davis Labs in California is only partly conclusive. They write: "Because it was a female, we could not examine the paternal lineage markers. We detected coyote in the sample, but the maternal lineage was non-coyote. It will take some more detective work to figure out if it is dog or wolf".


We shall be sending samples to Lars very soon for more tests.

NAOMI WEST: Black deer

The other day Naomi told us that her brother had seen a melanistic deer near where she and Richie live. She followed it up with this link discussing how more black deer, which are rare in North America, are being spotted in Texas.

RICHIE WEST: PERUVIAN HAIRLESS DOG

Jon,

My boss, Jann Stovall, was in Peru and saw many Peruvian hairless dogs. He took this photograph. Our newspaper article made some impact in that he remembered the Texas Blue Dog and thought this dog breed might have some link.

Excuses and Welcomes....

I'm rather late today in composing my blog posting. This is completely off-topic but last night I was out with my boyfriend Paul in Manchester. However, slightly on-topic was the decor of the bar we chose to spend the evening in. I wish I had photos. I was sitting for three hours just a foot away from a life-size wooden carving of a Komodo dragon. Over the other end of the room was another type of wooden lizard (also enormous) that I couldn't identify.

There were giant butterflies on the wall, gigantic plants in humungous vases, and they sold Dragon beer!

Anyhow, to business: today is the last Downesless day the CFZ in the UK will have to endure. Yesterday Naomi and Richie West waved goodbye to Jon and Corinna at the end of the 2010 Texas Blue Dog expedition. If you haven't been following the blue dog blog, then shame on you! The Downeses and Wests collected an unbelievable amount of evidence and information, and I for one, am hugely excited by it all.

And I'm sure that you will be excited at the prospect of having to read my witterings only once in a blue moon again, rather than the daily efforts of the last two weeks...

RICHIE WEST: THE NEW MEXICO `DOG-LION`

I thought this might get a laugh from a few of the blogsters!




This is the true story of a garage owner in New Mexico was sick and tired of thugs breaking into his garage shop to steal tools, etc.

So he came up with this idea. He put the word out that he had a new Mexican Lion that would attack anyone that would break in or climb his fence. Would-be thieves saw the 'lion' from a distance and fled the scene.The dog's probably trying to figure out why his head's so hot and his butt's so cold.

WE HAVE ARRIVED

Just to say that Corinna and I have arrived safely chez Naomi and Richie. The journey all went well but I am getting old for 36-hour journeys, and I can hardly walk this evening.

However, as always, Naomi and Richie have been wonderfully kind and hospitable to us, and introduced us to the joys of a rather nice Texan beer called Ziegenbock, which is something I think that I could become rather fond of. We have also met two charming little doggies called Salem and Tiberius, and eaten the nicest salad that I have ever consumed in half a century of salad consumption.

There will be a proper blog tomorrow, but I am too tired to do anything of the sort tonight.

CASTING SKULLS

As regular readers of the bloggo will know, thanks to the good offices of our friends and benefactors Richie and Naomi West, Corinna and I are off to Texas in a few weeks to study these bloody blue dogs at first hand.


When I was last there back in 2004 I photographed several skulls in the possession of Mr Devin Macanally of Elmendorf.


I want to make casts of these skulls to bring back to the UK. Has anyone got a cheap, and foolproof way to do it?



Suggestions please.

RICHIE AND NAOMI WEST: CFZ EXPEDITION TO TEXAS

On March 4 Mr Jon Downes and his lovely wife Corinna will be flying to the States and arriving March 5. Naomi and I are excited about being able to host them while they are here in Texas. We are starting to build an itinerary for them to include at least one very exciting venture.

A woman in southeast Texas has discovered a small family of hairless canines (referred by the CFZ as the Texas Blue dog) living behind her back yard. She has been feeding them and wants the CFZ to film them.

Naomi and I will be going down to that location next week to install day/night video cameras to film these creatures in action.

When Jon and Corinna arrive, we will be going there to further investigate them. The word from the family who discovered these creatures is that they have very unusual habits not normally associated with canines. Jon and Corinna will be accompanied for part of their trip by a team from a London TV Company who are following the CFZ for 8 months for a feature documentary for BBC2 and will be including the blue dog research in their documentary. We are excited as this will be a big story in the Fortean world. This picture was taken of the creature by the woman in southeast Texas.

But Jon and Corinna's trip will not all be work. We have invited Nick Redfern and Ken Gerhard to a small welcoming party where a small few of Naomi's friends plan to make food and drink. Jon is planning to make a few appearances at local MUFON groups.

Jon and Corinna will be able to continue providing updates to the CFZ and their respective blogs from the States. They will have computer and email access.

I WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU TO RICHIE

Doesn't it annoy you when you are doing your best to find a photograph of someone for a blog entry, and the bloody man refuses to be photographed except in a group with other people? Then feel sorry for me, because I have been trying to find a picture of Richie West, solo. And can I find one? Can I b******* (CORINNA: That's enough of that, dear)

That's a pity, because I really wanted to thank Richie for an extremely generous donation that we received from him on Monday; so generous in fact that I had to check with him that it wasn't a mistake.

But I couldn't even find a picture of him solo on his Facebook account that I could steal, and how on earth can an editor of my calibre thank someone for their incredible generosity without a picture? It just cannae be done.

RICHIE WEST: Perhaps Global Warming is Man-made

As a supporter of the CFZ and avid fan of Jon Downes, I have yet to offer any solo contribution to the CFZ. I support my wife's CFZ ventures, perfectly willing to remain in the background. Trained as a chemist/mathematician, receiving a BS degree from a large Texas university, I pride myself in the use of the scientific method, which leads me to write this essay.

I grew up in the sixties as an anti-establishment pro-environmentalist starting a controversial organisation called the Student Activists for a Free Environment (SAFE) at my local high school. I successfully participated in the requisite activities that made me a dully initiated member of any counter-culture group while at the university. I found myself on 'the fringe' and yet I write this article from a perspective within the CFZ again as a member of 'the fringe' within the fringe.

Recent publication of hacked email traffic reveal that several respected and renowned man-made global warming scientists have 'cooked the books.' It appears that they have manipulated their data to 'prove' the current politically correct position that if we don't do something now, our Earth will spiral into an unstoppable warming epoch instigated by man. (For the moment we will disregard the 70s environmental campaign against global cooling.) Al Gore received a Nobel Peace Prize for his work, Inconvenient Truth. Skeptical reviews [sic] of this movie have revealed 35 errors, 9 of which were questioned by a London High Court. 'The judge had stated that, if the UK Government had not agreed to send to every secondary school in England a corrected guidance note making clear the mainstream scientific position on these nine “errors”, he would have made a finding that the Government’s distribution of the film and the first draft of the guidance note earlier in 2007 to all English secondary schools had been an unlawful contravention of an Act of Parliament prohibiting the political indoctrination of children.' A good example of a glaring problem in Al Gore's data is this YouTube clip. Several MPs in the Australian parliament have resigned based on the organised deception by climate change scientists. It should be apparent even to the most naive that the world has been duped. My generation has now become 'the man.' We have shed our tie-dyed t-shirts and paisley patched jeans for the suit and perform the same mass deceptions we once protested.

In an ever vigilant quest for truth Jon has tried to keep the CFZ respectable, relying on science and the scientific method to discover truth. At times the truth has not been the most financially rewarding product for the CFZ. My desire is that the CFZ stay informed on emerging scientific data with respect to man-made global warming so as to maintain and even bolster its credibility. I ask that the CFZ be free thinkers and not be swayed by every whim of political doctrine.

Don't get me wrong. I am very concerned about what we do to our environment. I believe we are to be good stewards of what has been given to us. As much as we desire to preserve our Earth and the habitats it provides to some rapidly declining species' populations, we need to brandish the truth as our two-edged sword to combat ignorance that even our most respected climate change scientists seem to have been willing to maintain. We need to change people's hearts not control the truth.

The best way to end the man-made global warming debate is to publish the truth.

BLUE DOG EXPEDITION ANNOUNCEMENT

We can exclusively announce that due to the remarkable generosity of Richie and Naomi West, Corinna and I will be flying to Texas for a fortnight in mid March to carry on the Texas blue dog investigations at first hand.

The trip is being funded by Richie and Naomi who are being so ridiculously generous that words fail me, and I will never be rude to Richie, or tease Naomi again. No. Sadly, even in the face of such kindness I will not make promises that I cannot possibly keep.
