WELCOME TO THE CFZ BLOG NETWORK: COME AND JOIN THE FUN

Half a century ago, Belgian Zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans first codified cryptozoology in his book On the Track of Unknown Animals.

The Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ) are still on the track, and have been since 1992. But as if chasing unknown animals wasn't enough, we are involved in education, conservation, and good old-fashioned natural history! We already have three journals, the largest cryptozoological publishing house in the world, CFZtv, and the largest cryptozoological conference in the English-speaking world, but in January 2009 someone suggested that we started a daily online magazine! The CFZ bloggo is a collaborative effort by a coalition of members, friends, and supporters of the CFZ, and covers all the subjects with which we deal, with a smattering of music, high strangeness and surreal humour to make up the mix.

It is edited by CFZ Director Jon Downes, and subbed by the lovely Lizzy Bitakara'mire (formerly Clancy), scourge of improper syntax. The daily newsblog is edited by Corinna Downes, head administratrix of the CFZ, and the indexing is done by Lee Canty and Kathy Imbriani. There is regular news from the CFZ Mystery Cat study group, and regular fortean bird news from 'The Watcher of the Skies'. Regular bloggers include Dr Karl Shuker, Dale Drinnon, Richard Muirhead and Richard Freeman.The CFZ bloggo is updated daily, and there's nothing quite like it anywhere else. Come and join us...

FORTEAN BIRD NEWS FROM THE WATCHER OF THE SKIES

In an article for the first edition of Cryptozoology Bernard Heuvelmans wrote that cryptozoology is the study of 'unexpected animals' and following on from that perfectly reasonable assertion, it seems to us that whereas the study of out-of-place birds may not have the glamour of the hunt for bigfoot or lake monsters, it is still a perfectly valid area for the Fortean zoologist to be interested in.

So after about six months of regular postings on the main bloggo Corinna took the plunge and started a 'Watcher of the Skies' blog of her own as part of the CFZ Bloggo Network.

THE GONZO BLOG DOO-DAH MAN HAS EATEN CHEESE

The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that there were no blog updates yesterday and that today's are somewhat more skeletal than usual. We have had no internet access since the evening of New Year's Day. Whether this is because the technical support people at our ISP have been replaced by a colony of black-footed prairie dogs or whether it is because of the dreadful weather, which has caused floods, I don't know. But the fact remains that until British Telecom fix it, the only way we can get online is piggybacking on Graham's wi-fi using one of two ancient and very slow laptops.

Sadly, this means that although we can continue with the daily blogs - just about - we cannot do anything any more complicated so I am afraid that there won't be a Gonzo Weekly this weekend. I am very sorry about this, but there is nothing I can do....

CRYPTOLINK: Man claims to have shot and killed Bigfoot in Texas

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -

A self-described Bigfoot hunter claims to have shot and killed one of the creatures right here in Texas.

Rick Dyer released these photos on Thursday of what he says is proof that the mystical creature does, or at least did exist, before he shot and killed it. The legend chaser told our affiliate station, KSAT, that he shot and killed the creature while camping in a wooded area on the northwest side near Loop 1604 and Highway 151 in early September 2012.

Until Thursday, Dyer never provided any proof, other than a grainy video clip he shot of the beast outside his tent.
