WELCOME TO THE CFZ BLOG NETWORK: COME AND JOIN THE FUN

Half a century ago, Belgian Zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans first codified cryptozoology in his book On the Track of Unknown Animals.

The Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ) are still on the track, and have been since 1992. But as if chasing unknown animals wasn't enough, we are involved in education, conservation, and good old-fashioned natural history! We already have three journals, the largest cryptozoological publishing house in the world, CFZtv, and the largest cryptozoological conference in the English-speaking world, but in January 2009 someone suggested that we started a daily online magazine! The CFZ bloggo is a collaborative effort by a coalition of members, friends, and supporters of the CFZ, and covers all the subjects with which we deal, with a smattering of music, high strangeness and surreal humour to make up the mix.

It is edited by CFZ Director Jon Downes, and subbed by the lovely Lizzy Bitakara'mire (formerly Clancy), scourge of improper syntax. The daily newsblog is edited by Corinna Downes, head administratrix of the CFZ, and the indexing is done by Lee Canty and Kathy Imbriani. There is regular news from the CFZ Mystery Cat study group, and regular fortean bird news from 'The Watcher of the Skies'. Regular bloggers include Dr Karl Shuker, Dale Drinnon, Richard Muirhead and Richard Freeman. The CFZ bloggo is updated daily, and there's nothing quite like it anywhere else. Come and join us...

ROBERT SCHNECK: Diver Has "Holy Crap!" Moment

http://www.justnews.com/furryfriends/26780745/detail.html

Just when you think Nature's done messing with you, along comes the blanket octopus.

"We saw something that was just out of this world, something I've never seen before,"

he said.

"I just started snapping pictures right away, and this thing looked like something out of (the movie) 'Avatar' -- I mean, the colors on it."

More than a coincidence?

CRYPTO CAKE

A few days back Robert Schneck sent a posting about an octopus cake and Syd commented. Syd phoned me up the other night on a completely unrelated matter and mentioned the cake in passing, and I promised to post a picture of Corinnas's and my wedding cake, decorated by Mark North. It was truly magnificent....

OLL LEWIS: Yesterday's News Today

http://cryptozoologynews.blogspot.com/

On this day in 1702 Jack Sheppard was born. Sheppard was the original 'Jack the lad' and became popular with the public after escaping from prison four times before finally being executed.

For more information on him see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Sheppard
I recommend you do look at the wikipedia link as it is very interesting.
And now, the news:

KEN GERHARD WRITES

Hello all,

I was hoping to get some educated opinions about this mysterious object. The gentleman who sent these photos to me insists that it is a skull from an unidentified animal, and that he also is is possession of a few of its teeth. It appears to have small horns and is lacking eye sockets. In my opinion it resembles a vertebrae, although anatomy is definitely not my strong suit. He is seeking to have it scientifically analyzed. Any thoughts or opinions on the object would be most appreciated!

Always the very best,

Ken

ROBERT SCHNECK WRITES

Hi Jon,

Just a note to say how much I enjoyed the new OTT. My favorite part was the final word on Egyptian jackals as wolves; that means Anubis is not a jackal-headed god, but a wolf-headed one like Wepwawet.

And I wrote a verse for Prudence's tag.

I am Prudence of the CFZ
I have a big collar 'cause I have a big head.

Thank you and good-night.

Last month's positions in this pinky colour, which I think is called cerise. February and March are always weird months; there is a sales slump because people who paid for Christmas on their credit cards now have to start paying it back....

It is with great pleasure that I can announce that Matt Salusbury will be speaking at the Weird Weekend about his forthcoming (this spring) expedition to Kerala in search of pygmy elephants....
