I haven't had rheumatism for years,
but today it seems to be back again,
I woke quite early and it appears
I could hardly walk from the nagging pain,
but omeprazole and naproxen were quite effective,
I slept with Archie on my lap,
and when I woke I could get on with my objective,
and in case you wondered, Archie is a waggy tailed chap.

FORTEAN BIRD NEWS FROM THE WATCHER OF THE SKIES
What has Corinna's column of Fortean bird news got to do with cryptozoology? Well, everything, actually!
In an article for the first edition of Cryptozoology Bernard Heuvelmans wrote that cryptozoology is the study of 'unexpected animals' and following on from that perfectly reasonable assertion, it seems to us that whereas the study of out-of-place birds may not have the glamour of the hunt for bigfoot or lake monsters, it is still a perfectly valid area for the Fortean zoologist to be interested in.

YER EDITOR SEZ:
Yesterday I went to Bideford and District hospital for the fourth time in two weeks. The results were good news; the infection has gone, but they want me to return next week. I cannot thank them enough for their kindness and diligence.
But in the big scheme of things this doesn't matter.
What does matter is that the social cohesion of the world is falling apart very fast, and we are being failed by our political masters. The only glimmers of hope come from our young people. Yesterday it was announced that 16 year-old Greta Thunberg has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, which is a momentous achievement. She started the global "School Strike for Climate" movement which will - today - be having its biggest achievement yet - a global school strike which it is claimed will include hundreds of thousands of school age children. Greta herself wrote: "Tomorrow we school strike for the climate in 1769 places in 112 countries around the world. And counting."
I was kicked out of school 42 years ago, and am now a grandfather. But today, Charlotte, Graham and I will join the protestors in Bideford, in order to show solidarity with a movement, which puts most of the actions of its so-called 'elders and betters' to shame. Power to the People!
THE DIGITAL PRAYER FLAG
Regular readers will know that we recently shared the positive news about Corinna's health with you all, and that - at least at the moment - she appears to be cancer free. I am convinced that her condition is a direct result of the good wishes, prayers, and positive vibes from thousands of people around the world.
A prayer flag (Lung ta) is a colourful rectangular cloth, often found strung along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas. They are used to bless the surrounding countryside and for other purposes.

I believe something similar happens with positive vibes transmitted electronically, and - having used it to such good effect with my dear wife's condition, I want to try it on a larger scale. I am still trying to work out the details, so watch this space.

And at Fortean Fiction, my latest novel - 'Zen and Xenophobia' - vaguely a sequel to 2015's 'The Song of Panne' - is now available.
! would warn you that if you are of a nervous disposition, or easily offended, you will find parts of my novel both offensive and upsetting. There is sex, violence, drug abuse, occultism, pornography, firearms, politics, religion, and not a little sociology. But there is also love, kindness, faith, and redemption. And it's a cracking good yarn. Or I think so, at any rate. All I would say on the subject before bidding you farewell is Caveat Lector. And I'm not gonna explain what that means, because because if you don't know what that means then you probably shouldn't be reading the book in the first place.
