WELCOME TO THE CFZ BLOG NETWORK: COME AND JOIN THE FUN

Half a century ago, Belgian Zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans first codified cryptozoology in his book On the Track of Unknown Animals.

The Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ) are still on the track, and have been since 1992. But as if chasing unknown animals wasn't enough, we are involved in education, conservation, and good old-fashioned natural history! We already have three journals, the largest cryptozoological publishing house in the world, CFZtv, and the largest cryptozoological conference in the English-speaking world, but in January 2009 someone suggested that we started a daily online magazine! The CFZ bloggo is a collaborative effort by a coalition of members, friends, and supporters of the CFZ, and covers all the subjects with which we deal, with a smattering of music, high strangeness and surreal humour to make up the mix.

It is edited by CFZ Director Jon Downes, and subbed by the lovely Lizzy Bitakara'mire (formerly Clancy), scourge of improper syntax. The daily newsblog is edited by Corinna Downes, head administratrix of the CFZ, and the indexing is done by Lee Canty and Kathy Imbriani. There is regular news from the CFZ Mystery Cat study group, and regular fortean bird news from 'The Watcher of the Skies'. Regular bloggers include Dr Karl Shuker, Dale Drinnon, Richard Muirhead and Richard Freeman. The CFZ bloggo is updated daily, and there's nothing quite like it anywhere else. Come and join us...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAX

Max Blake is 20 today. In the two and a half years since we met him at the first Bugfest, he has become an integral part of both the CFZ and Corinna's and my lives.

I honestly cannot imagine our life without him.

Happy birthday, my dear boy, with much love from us both, and from all at the CFZ.

THANK YOU...

...to everybody who was so kind, and posted birthday greetings yesterday, either by email, on the blog or on Facebook. I am completely overwhelmed.

Thank you to everyone who telephoned. I feel very bad that I still can't talk properly because of this bloody cold, and I want to apologise particularly to dear Lizzy who was greeted by a barrage of wheezing and spluttering noises.

It makes me feel very loved and very appreciated.

Thank you all of you :)

CFZ PEOPLE: Gavin Lloyd Wilson

Very happy birthday to our dear Newsblog Editor, but for whom there would be no newsblog. And with no newsblog, there would be no Yesterday's News Today. And with No Yesterday's News Today, Oll would not have a legitimate outlet for his puns. And without a legitimate outlet for his puns, he would probably just be forced to try them out on Jon. And if he were to try out bad puns on Jon each day, Jon would probably go into a psychotic rage and rend him limb from limb. And if Jon were to rend Oll limb from limb he would probably end up in Broadmoor and there would be no CFZ. So in a very real sense Gavin has saved the life of a fellow Welshman and saved the CFZ. So Happy Birthday!

CFZ PEOPLE: Happy Birthday Oll

Happy birthday to Oll Lewis, CFZ ecologist, bloggo stalwart, daily author of `Yesterday's News Today`, all round good egg, and the Welsh bloke who has been living in my spare room for three years. He is 29 today, and we would like to wish him many happy returns, and much love.

By the way, this photo was taken at the same time as the one we used for the Caption Competition the other day. The winner of this (in the face of some stiff competition) was Dave McMann with: "The Devon Three strongly deny allegations of jury fixing after their shock release".
