On this day in 2008 Paul the Octopus hatched. Paul rose to international fame by accurately 'predicting' results of World Cup football matches, based on which tasty treat he ate first that day. This is in fact the only remotely interesting thing to happen associated with football, which in my opinion is second only to golf in tedious things to watch.
