On this day in 1935 the first polygraph machines were tested. Soon they were touted as a foolproof and scientific way of seeing if someone was telling the truth or not and used by several law enforcement agencies. However, it has been proved since then that the devices are basically pseudo-science and very easy to fool either way and there have been multiple miscarriages of justice and cases of murderers waltzing away without charge.

In November Sahar Dimus, our guide on four CFZ Sumatra expeditions, died of liver failure leaving a widow Lucy and four Children. On the 2nd November, Dezyama D. Sangma, wife of our friend and colleague Dipu Marak, our collaborator on the 2010 Indian expedition died, leaving her grieving husband and two small children.
