WELCOME TO THE CFZ BLOG NETWORK: COME AND JOIN THE FUN

Half a century ago, Belgian Zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans first codified cryptozoology in his book On the Track of Unknown Animals.

The Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ) are still on the track, and have been since 1992. But as if chasing unknown animals wasn't enough, we are involved in education, conservation, and good old-fashioned natural history! We already have three journals, the largest cryptozoological publishing house in the world, CFZtv, and the largest cryptozoological conference in the English-speaking world, but in January 2009 someone suggested that we started a daily online magazine! The CFZ bloggo is a collaborative effort by a coalition of members, friends, and supporters of the CFZ, and covers all the subjects with which we deal, with a smattering of music, high strangeness and surreal humour to make up the mix.

It is edited by CFZ Director Jon Downes, and subbed by the lovely Lizzy Bitakara'mire (formerly Clancy), scourge of improper syntax. The daily newsblog is edited by Corinna Downes, head administratrix of the CFZ, and the indexing is done by Lee Canty and Kathy Imbriani. There is regular news from the CFZ Mystery Cat study group, and regular fortean bird news from 'The Watcher of the Skies'. Regular bloggers include Dr Karl Shuker, Dale Drinnon, Richard Muirhead and Richard Freeman. The CFZ bloggo is updated daily, and there's nothing quite like it anywhere else. Come and join us...

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Forty years ago this morning I woke up in the lower of two bunk beds in a ground floor apartment in Hong Kong. The apartment block has long been demolished, amusingly for the construction of a Ripley's Believe it or Not odditorium. A pretty good way for the childhood home of a fortean to go. I lay in bed and looked out of the window watching the dawn sun picking out the tiny junks around the island of Cheung Chau.

I was ten years old, and the fact that this particular morning was the dawning of a new decade was a big deal for me. The fact that then I had been alive in three different decades was a mind blower. Well I have now been alive in seven different decades, and the fact that there is a new decade before us full of opportunities and adventures is still a big deal.

The CFZ has come a long way in the past ten years, I wonder where we will be in ten years time...

Now for some hippy music to annoy Redfern

I think actually that you would have to try a very great deal harder to annoy Mr Redfern, for he survived a car trip with me, in close proximity to not only a large number of Enya albums, but also "The Finest Arvest of the Wurzels" and seemed none the worse for the experience. Admittedly I did also have a small collection of bootleg punk in case an antidote were needed, but I still think you are underestimating the man's fortitude.

Never mind about being alive in seven decades; do you remember all seven?

I don't remember the fifties, but remember mostly from 1961 onwards, although 2001 is a little hazy..
