And so another one of the greats has gone. I didn't know John Renbourn well, but I did know him, and he even was going to play on one of my records at some point. Renbourn was due to play at the Ferry in Glasgow on Wednesday night but colleagues became concerned when he failed to turn up. Police found him at his home on Thursday morning, where it is thought he had died from a heart attack. The world is a poorer place today. I still have a temperature and a sore throat, but at least I can hear in one ear now. This blasted cold is beginning to be a real problem because it is getting in the way of things that I actually WANT to do...

It has Anthony Phillips on the cover, and an article and interview with him inside. Roy Weard reports on a very special benefit concert in aid of ailing Wings and Grease Band guitarist Henry McCullough, and we send an insect geneticist to a desert island. Neil Nixon reports on an even stranger album than usual, Wyrd goes avant garde and there are radio shows from Strange Fruit and from M Destiny at Friday Night Progressive, and the titular submarine dwellers are still lost at sea, although I have been assured that they will hit land again soon. There is also a collection of more news, reviews, views, interviews and pademelons trying to choose (OK, nothing to do with small marsupials having difficulty in making choices, but I got carried away with things that rhymed with OOOOS) than you can shake a stick at. He is ably assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his bulldog/boxer Prudence, his elderly mother-in-law, and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we mention the infantile orange cat?
