The Gonzo Daily - Wednesday
Sometime tomorrow all sorts of people are going to start arriving from all
over Europe, and tomorrow night there will be thirty or forty people sitting
around drinking cava on my lawn. Then the whole circus moves to Hartland for
three days, and by Monday it will all be over. Monday is also my birthday. I
will be fifty-seven, which seems terribly old to me. I am basically the same
bolshie fellow as I was in my early twenties, only my joints are more unsteady.
And no, that wasn’t a drug reference.
Already my friend Julia, who is a very pronounced psychic, and more than
slightly peculiar (and yes, the song on my last EP was partly about her) is
ensconsed in the sitting room happily talking to dead people, and Mother is
cheerfully chuntering away about the way that the tortoises keep on messing up
their drinking water.

* Jon Downes, the Editor of all these ventures (and several others) is an
old hippy of 56 who - together with an infantile orange cat named after a song
by Frank Zappa, and two small kittens, one totally coincidentally named after
one of the Manson Family, purely because she squeaks, puts it all together from
a converted potato shed in a tumbledown cottage deep in rural Devon which he
shares with various fish. He is ably assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his
bulldog/boxer Prudence, his elderly mother-in-law, and a motley collection of
social malcontents. Plus.. did we mention the infantile orange cat, and the
adventurous kittens?
