WELCOME TO THE CFZ BLOG NETWORK: COME AND JOIN THE FUN

Half a century ago, Belgian Zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans first codified cryptozoology in his book On the Track of Unknown Animals.

The Centre for Fortean Zoology (CFZ) are still on the track, and have been since 1992. But as if chasing unknown animals wasn't enough, we are involved in education, conservation, and good old-fashioned natural history! We already have three journals, the largest cryptozoological publishing house in the world, CFZtv, and the largest cryptozoological conference in the English-speaking world, but in January 2009 someone suggested that we started a daily online magazine! The CFZ bloggo is a collaborative effort by a coalition of members, friends, and supporters of the CFZ, and covers all the subjects with which we deal, with a smattering of music, high strangeness and surreal humour to make up the mix.

It is edited by CFZ Director Jon Downes, and subbed by the lovely Lizzy Bitakara'mire (formerly Clancy), scourge of improper syntax. The daily newsblog is edited by Corinna Downes, head administratrix of the CFZ, and the indexing is done by Lee Canty and Kathy Imbriani. There is regular news from the CFZ Mystery Cat study group, and regular fortean bird news from 'The Watcher of the Skies'. Regular bloggers include Dr Karl Shuker, Dale Drinnon, Richard Muirhead and Richard Freeman. The CFZ bloggo is updated daily, and there's nothing quite like it anywhere else. Come and join us...

Unlike some of our competitors we are not going to try and blackmail you into donating by saying that we won't continue if you don't. MOGGY ADOPTS BOBCATS

CHAD ARMENT SENT THIS

via Kevin Stewart, here's an interesting Native Plant Society of Texas posting on a plant species that was recognised as distinctive by an amateur naturalist thirty years ago, but dismissed by botanists until a few years ago:http://npsot.org/?p=1342

AUBREY WRITES...

Jon, as I always do at the beginning of each month, I watched the latest episode of On the Track. And this month watching episode 34 I was completely shocked and amazed to see my video, which I only sent to you a few days earlier, about the baby Kestrel on your video. I quickly called out to my wife and we watched it in full together. Your work is intriguing to me and I watch and read everything that you do. Your whole CFZ team is absolutely wonderful. You made this dedicated watcher quite happy. And giving me a credit at the end just made my year.

On a different note, I would like to say thank you, Jon. As an artist I find your voice both soothing and relaxing; I listen to your episodes of On the Track every time I sit to paint. Listening to your voice makes my job that much easier. And my last painting of a water Buffalo is an example of what you help me do.

I would also like to thank Corrina, Oll, Richard, Graham and Max for their outstanding work. If I were able I would give each a gold medal for outstanding work and dedication. You all show that there is more to life then this rat race that we are all part of. That there is a gentler side to life, a side with terrific people who are always willing to give, and then give some more: people who educate us from our homes; people who take us on journeys most can't afford and give us the opportunity to follow along from the safety of our homes; people who stay up late working in front of their computers to produce quality products that we have all come to love. You are all teachers to us but even more your friends and family.

Thank you all.

I am overwhelmed. I think that is the nicest letter anyone has ever sent us, and I am sure that none of us deserve it really :)

PAUL HARESNAPE HAS, ONCE AGAIN, BEEN REMARKABLY GENEROUS

We received another $80 donation yesterday from Paul Haresnape. He really has been remarkably generous. This will be going into the fund to pay for the ongoing renovations to the fish room/conservatory. Thank you, Paul.

Picture: Max looks cheerfully stoic in afore-said fishroom.

FAIRY CROSS ORCHIDS IN THE NEWS

MARK NORTH SENT THIS

Hi Jon and Corrina

Heard about this website via BBC Radio 4 today.

http://ispot.org.uk/

Don't know if you have heard about this website already, but might thought it would be a useful tool for the CFZ to create there own account to share and identify species in North Devon or anywhere else :)

All the best

Mark

It is a fantastic resource. We signed up last night, and I have already spent more time there than I should have done...
