Coffee cream with Hitler on the label causes Swiss uproar
Zurich - A creamy controversy has reared its head in Switzerland Wednesday after the Swiss retailer Migros supplied a range of coffee cream pots, with the faces of both Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini on the labels, to local coffee shops and restaurants.
20Minutes (German language) published an article where their reporter was enjoying coffee at a snack bar in Baden and with horror, "suddenly saw the face of Adolf Hitler before me."
Photos of the labels have been doing the rounds on Twitter, including this image:
In a statement Wednesday, Migros apologized for what it described as a series of errors. Offering excuses for this "unforgivable incident," the company is now in the process of withdrawing stocks of the around 2,000 small cream pots from the various cafes who had erroneously received the controversial product.
While Migros has a network supermarkets in Switzerland, the cream pots were not actually for sale on the shelves and were merely served at the approximately 100 cafes and restaurants who are clients of the retail company.
Migros blamed a subsidiary milk company, ELSA, for the error, saying they had been responsible for the supply of the cream and added that their internal control procedures had obviously been "insufficient."
