We can exclusively announce that due to the remarkable generosity of Richie and Naomi West, Corinna and I will be flying to Texas for a fortnight in mid March to carry on the Texas blue dog investigations at first hand.
The trip is being funded by Richie and Naomi who are being so ridiculously generous that words fail me, and I will never be rude to Richie, or tease Naomi again. No. Sadly, even in the face of such kindness I will not make promises that I cannot possibly keep.
Thank you, my dears, from the bottom of our hearts.

We can't wait to see you guys again! And I hope all the Blue Dogs of Texas converge in our area while you are here. (The animal, that is. Here Blue Dog means something else entirely - in the political sense.)
So an anarchist searching for a blue dog has strange connotations?
Jon,
"Blue Dog" in American politics means conservative members of the Democratic Party. They are kind of like the "wets" in the Conservative Party in that they don't go along with the leadership's main policies.

This is their icon: http://sty.porkopolis.org/lost/Bluedog2.jpg
It looks like a blue merle Cardigan corgi-- just with no merling!
In the Democratic Party there is another thing called a yellow dog. That goes back to when the South was solidly Democratic and hard-core conservative people would vote for a Democrat, even if he was a "yellow dog." That's because the South hated the Republican Party for about a century after the Civil War (Lincoln was a Republican).
Today, yellow dog just means anyone who votes for the Democrats no matter what.
