CRYPTOLINK: Texas Chupacabra Will Not Be Bothering Any Livestock

The small animal that was caught in Texas and had the residents of Ratcliffe running around saying they had caught the mysterious creature believed to be an actual chupacabra will not be bothering anyone or any livestock now. This is because it has been euthanized.

It started receiving attention from around the country after a family living in Ratcliffe captured the creature, claiming it to be the mythical chupacabra. This was all because it had no hair, huge claws and a fierce growl. The chupacabra is allegedly supposed to attack livestock such as goats and cows and suck all of the blood out of them.

The Stock family reported that after a video of the animal went nation-wide, the animal rights group PETA began sending them messages, telling the family that they were troubled by the fact that the animal was stuck in captivity and was not being given the proper care.

So the family then stated that Jackie Stock took the creature to a local animal shelter and it was gently put to sleep. The people there agreed to do it because they believed it was in pain. The name of the shelter has had to be kept under wraps due to the sheer numbers of threats it has gotten since the incident.

They told her that if the creature had actually been a real chupacabra, it would have gotten the goats that lived next door and sucked the blood out of them before it was ever caught. The animal shelter explained that they believed the creature that Stock and her husband had was most likely a raccoon that had an extreme case of mange and that it was in severe pain.

VICTORIA, Texas (WTVR) – An animal shot and killed outside a Texas couple’s home was a mythical Chupacabra, according to Doug and Lucy Ohrt. The Ohrts said their grandson shot the creature on their Texas ranch Sunday night.

But experts do not believe the slain animal is a  Chupacabra.

“They’re a mythical creature, but what most people see it really is sarcoptic mange which is caused by a mite that bites the animal,” Wildlife Biologist Josh Turner told Crossroadstoday.com. ”It can be on any mammal dogs, cats,  coyotes, foxes, and humans can get another version of it as well.”

Plea in Mitigation

For nearly a decade and a half I have been running the Centre for Fortean Zoology - the world's largest cryptozoological research organisation. As it says on our website front page:

We have no outside funding, and all our money comes from membership fees, sales of our books, and donations. However, we not only manage to keep going, but over the years have mounted expeditions across the world - most recently to Mongolia (2005) in search of the fabled Mongolian Deathworm, to Puerto Rico (2004) in search of the grotesque vampiric chupacabra, and to Sumatra (2004) in search of a legendary bipedal ape called Orang Pendek.

People often comment that mine must be a wonderfully exciting job - after all, I lead a team of monster hunters, and haven't had a haircut in years! It is very true; what I do can be very exciting indeed, but it is often far more prosaic.

Because we are funded by public monies, I feel that it is only appropriate for us to share our activities with the people who pay for them. Therefore (and I can't remember who's idea it was; probably Corinna, my girlfriend's) I shall attempt to keep this blog going. I don't promise to do it every day, but I shall try to keep everyone who is interested up to date with what we all actually do here at the CFZ.

Once I have managed to keep this going for a while, I shall use my position of moral superiority to try and get some of the other core members of the CFZ team to do blogs as well. In certain cases it might well be the only way I shall ever find out what the buggers actually get up to all day....
