CRYPTOLINK: 'Britain's Bigfoot' spotted in Tunbridge Wells - Signs of the Times

You see some strange things in and around the county, but perhaps this could be the weirdest yet, after claims a British Bigfoot has been spotted in woodland near Tunbridge Wells. Dubbed the Kentish Apeman, it is claimed he towers eight-foot tall, is covered in hair and has red demonic eyes.

And while that may sound like lots of people after a night on the town, what's intriguing many is the fact a recent sighting ties in with one nearly 70 years ago on the same spot. The most recent sighting is believed to have taken place last month on Tunbridge Wells Common - the 200-acre wooded site which sits in the centre of the town and is one of its most picturesque features.

KARL SHUKER: NELSON MANDELA AND THE AFRICAN TIGER

The most famous striped or brindled mystery cats on record from Africa are the Tanzanian nunda or mngwa (click here for a ShukerNature post devoted to this feline cryptid) and the so-called mountain tiger of the Central African Republic, which has been likened in outward appearance to Africa's prehistoric sabre-tooth Machairodus. However, these are not the only ones by any means, as demonstrated by the following selection of lesser-known striped crypto-cats reported from the Dark Continent.

FORTEAN BIRD NEWS FROM THE WATCHER OF THE SKIES (CFZ)

In an article for the first edition of Cryptozoology Bernard Heuvelmans wrote that cryptozoology is the study of 'unexpected animals' and following on from that perfectly reasonable assertion, it seems to us that - whereas the study of out of place birds may not have the glamour of the hunt for bigfoot, or lake monsters - it is still a perfectly valid area for the Fortean Zoologist to be interested in. So, after about six months of regular postings on the main bloggo, Corinna has taken the plunge and started a 'Watcher of the Skies' blog of her own as part of the CFZ Bloggo Network.

Life really is strange. I am still sharing my study with a small group of Asian batrachians (two Chinese black spined toads, and an Indian chubby frog, and they are singing away happily whenever I put music on. The particularly seem to like Michael Des Barres' album which shows that they have impeccable taste. Corinna has posted off all the UK orders for 'The Journal of Cryptozoology, Naomi is doing the US ones and someone else (Rebecca, I think) is doing Oz. Mother has just told me off because my office (which I thought was mildly messy)is "a disgrace!" On top of it all Rob Ayling is keeping me amused with emails from Los Angeles where is is doing something arcane with Guns and Roses. Days like this I enjoy.

The Gonzo Daily is a two way process. If you have any news or want to write for us, please contact me at jon@eclipse.co.uk. If you are an artist and want to showcase your work, or even just say hello please write to me at gonzo@cfz.org.uk. Please copy, paste and spread the word about this magazine as widely as possible. We need people to read us in order to grow, and as soon as it is viable we shall be invading more traditional magaziney areas. Join in the fun, spread the word, and maybe if we all chant loud enough we CAN stop it raining. See you tomorrow...
The Gonzo Daily is - as the name implies - a daily online magazine (mostly) about artists connected to the Gonzo Multimedia group of companies. But it also has other stuff as and when the editor feels like it. The Editor is an old hippy of 53 who - together with his orange cat - puts it all together from a converted potato shed in a tumbledown cottage deep in rural Devon. He is ably assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his bulldog/boxer Prudence, and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we mention the orange cat?
