On this day in 1996 IMB’s chess-playing super computer, Deep Blue, beat chess grand master Garry Kasparov for the first time. Over all Deep Blue (formerly known as Deep Thought II after the computer in H2G2) beat Kasparov 2-1 with 3 drawn matches.
