TADPOLE POND

Fifty years ago, a small pond just down the hillside from Mount Austin playground in Hong Kong was my friends and my secret hideout. To successive generations of children at Mount Austin, Hong Kong, this was "Tadpole Pond". I have been dreaming about it ever since, and had nightmares in which it had been concreted over. My darling godson Greg is in HK this week and pretty well the first thing the dear boy did was to find it for me. I am ridiculously pleased that it is still there, although disappointed that the Health and Safety ethos has reached the far East as well. There were no fences in our day...

Thank you Greg. You have made a tedious old git very happy.
