MUIRHEAD`S MYSTERIES:Octopus behaving badly

Hi y`all

Found the following story in the Olympia Daily Recorder (Washington) of December 30th 1907

FISHERMAN CHOKED BY GIANT OCTOPUS

While fishing in the Narrows near Tacoma on Friday, Edward Clow narrowly escaped being choked to death in the embrace being choked to death in the embrace of a huge octopus. It was only by heroic effort on the part of Clow`s two companions that the devil fish was killed. The octopus took Clow`s line and gave a tremendous jerk. The fishermen, thinking he had a fine catch, brought the deep sea monster up. In its grasp it had a large stone. Dropping this as it was brought into the boat it seized Clow and would have choked him to death had the other two men not killed it with their oars/

The queer creature was taken to a fish market and later sold to the proprietor of  a Japanese boarding house, who will serve it to his guests on New Year`s day, devilfish being considered a great delicacy. It weighed ninety pounds, had eight arms and measured twenty feet from tip to tip.
