HE SINGS, HE DANCES, HE JUMPS NAKED OUT OF A CAKE; IT'S THE GONZO BLOG DOO DAH MAN

The Gonzo Daily - Monday

I am most impressed by the demos of the Jon Anderson/Jean Luc Ponty band that have been released onto the internet by 921 Associates on Soundcloud. This is going to be one hell of a band. I strongly suggest that you search them out while you can, because these things have a habit of only being available for a day or two.

Although it has not been as spectacular as last year, 2014 has been a good year for British butterflies. On our way up to Norfolk for the birth of Olivia's baby I realised another minor lifetime ambition when I saw a brown hairstreak at the Michael Wood services on the M5. This last few days has seen a number of sightings of Monarch butterflies in Cornwall and the Scilly Isles. This iconic butterfly is native to North America but has colonised eastern Australiasia, New Zealand and bits of southern Asia, as well as the Atlantic islands of Madeira, Azores and the Canary Islands, and small portions of southern Spain. This is the second lot of records for the UK this year, with a string of sightings in Kent back in July.

The Blue Underwing (Catocala fraxini), also known as Clifden Nonpareil is another iconiuc speciues, and one of Britain's rarest moths. As Dave Brown writes on UK Butterflies: "This year in Kent it has been the magnificent Clifden Nonpareil, also nicknamed the Blue Underwing, that has stood out. It is mainly a immigrant species with annually less than 10 records for the whole of Britain. We ourselves had only seen 3 up to this year, but remarkably have seen 4 so far in September. We are aware of a minimum of 23 records this September so far spread over East and Mid Kent. Photographs indicate that most, if not all, are different specimens. This is based on plumage wear and condition, with a few having nicks out of them."

There is speculation that this gorgeous moth may be breeding in the UK at last.

FOUNDING JUDAS PRIEST SINGER AL DROPS NEW TRACK

Counting Crows, Richard Thompson, Hawkwind, Patrick Moraz, Elton John and Prince fans and all sorts of other people, had better look out! The latest issue of Gonzo Weekly (#98) is available to read at www.gonzoweekly.com, and to download at http://www.gonzoweekly.com/pdf/.

It has Matt Malley on the cover, and features an interview with him in which he discusses his work with Counting Crows, Richard Thompson, Patrick Moraz, Emmitt Rhodes and more. Doug Harr goes to see Elton John, and Jon asks why so many people are pissed off with U2 and iTunes. The new albums by Prince, Leonard Cohen and Marianne Faithfull are critiqued and there are exclusive words and pictures from two separate Hawkwind shows. There are also new shows from the multi-talented Neil Nixon at Strange Fruit and from M Destiny at Friday Night Progressive, and the massively talented Jaki and Tim are back with their submarine and Maisie the cow. There is also a collection of more news, reviews, views, interviews and doves making coos (OK, no musical members of the Columbinidae, but I got carried away with things that rhymed with OOOOS) than you can shake a stick at. And the best part is IT's ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!

*  The Gonzo Daily is a two way process. If you have any news or want to write for us, please contact me at  jon@eclipse.co.uk. If you are an artist and want to showcase your work, or even just say hello please write to me at gonzo@cfz.org.uk. Please copy, paste and spread the word about this magazine as widely as possible. We need people to read us in order to grow, and as soon as it is viable we shall be invading more traditional magaziney areas. Join in the fun, spread the word, and maybe if we all chant loud enough we CAN stop it raining. See you tomorrow...

*  The Gonzo Daily is - as the name implies - a daily online magazine (mostly) about artists connected to the Gonzo Multimedia group of companies. But it also has other stuff as and when the editor feels like it. The same team also do a weekly newsletter called - imaginatively - The Gonzo Weekly. Find out about it at this link: www.gonzo-multimedia.blogspot.com/2012/11/all-gonzo-news-wots-fit-to-print.html

* We should probably mention here, that some of our posts are links to things we have found on the internet that we think are of interest. We are not responsible for spelling or factual errors in other people's websites. Honest guv!

*  Jon Downes, the Editor of all these ventures (and several others) is an old hippy of 54 who - together with an infantile orange cat named after a song by Frank Zappa puts it all together from a converted potato shed in a tumbledown cottage deep in rural Devon which he shares with various fish, and sometimes a small Indian frog. He is ably assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his bulldog/boxer Prudence, his elderly mother-in-law, and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we mention the infantile orange cat?
