OLL LEWIS: Yesterday's News Today

Yesterday’s News Today

On this day in 1980 Namco released Pac-Man. Pac-Man was one of the most technologically advanced of the early arcade games and along with Space Invaders (another Namco game) and Nintendo's Donkey Kong helped show the potential for what video games could accomplish, kick-starting what would become the world's most popular art form. Pac-Man was originally called Puck-Man after a hockey puck but Midway, the games American distributor, changed the name to Pac-Man out of fear that evil communists might change the P to look like an F in a bid to corrupt the wholesome American youth or some such crazy idea.
