On this day in 1887 Jenny Lind, A.K.A. the Swedish Nightingale died. Lind was an accomplished singer in Europe who P.T. Barnum financed on a tour of America. Although unknown in America when Barnum convinced her to work with him, by the time she started her tour she had become one of America's biggest stars without even singing a note thanks to Barnum's clever manipulation of the press. Both Barnum and Lind made a fortune from the tour and Lind donated most of it to charity.
