I'M YER GONZO BLOG DOO-DAH MAN

Today looks set to be another jolly day, and I am once again in a surprisingly good mood. It is a bit scary to realise that we are now only a week away from the beginning of the 2012 Weird Weekend (www.weirdweekend.org) and if you are planning to buy tickets at the special advance price, today is probably a good time in which to do it. Apart from that, I go to the doctor this afternoon, and hopefully will be able to hear by teatime...

I have always been a sucker for sci-fi themed San Fransisco poster art of the hippyesque kind, and writing about the forthcoming Jefferson Starship/Auburn tour is certainly giving me the opportunity to indulge this obsession. I thought that the tour poster that I posted yesterday was a good one, but have a butchers at this....

I had no idea that Rick Wakeman posted a monthly letter to his fans and devotees on his website. However, I do now, and today I provide a link to Grumpy Old Rick's Ramblings for August. I would like to point out that the words 'Grumpy old Rick' and 'Ramblings' are Mr W's not mine. I would never presume to say such a thing.

As I said Yesterday, Galahad are probably my favourite contemporary rock band, because they tick all the right boxes for me (being literate, intelligent and well crafted) whilst avoiding the aspects of contemporary rock music (the roaring and intelligible vocals, double snare drums that sound like the tappit valves going on a Ford Cortina, and horribly over compressed everything) that annoy me. They are a smashing band and I greet the news of their forthcoming new album with great enthusiasm.

I was talking to Michael Des Barres on Facebook the other night, and I congratulated him about his latest acting role. However, I had to admit that although it appears that NCIS is the biggest TV show in the world, I had only vaguely heard of it, because I don't have a TV. That's not actually true - I have two TVs and another unplugged up in the library, but none of them are connected to the outside world (except for the one in the sitting room, and that only gets on the internet via a Nintendo device), and although Corinna, Prudence and I watch the occasional DVD or online thingy, we never actually watch TV per se, and do not have the means so to do. However, this just makes us odd! Many congratulations to Michael for his smashing news.

As regular readers will doubtlessly know, I am a massive fan of a Gonzo recording act called Auburn, and their singer Liz Lenten, and there were whoops and cheers of delight in the Gonzo Daily office when we found out that they were supporting Jefferson Starship on the forthcoming UK Tour. Apparently Liz is currently in America where (as this picture shows) she is exhibiting disturbing signs of going native. Come on dear, remember you are English, Blighty Spirit blah blah blah

And so the great Liz Fraser debate continues. It all started when Gonzo roving reporter Davey Curtis who wrote about Ms Fraser's warm up gig in Bath and compared it wistfully at the days of the Cocteau Twins. I then got hold of some YouTube videos of both the Bath Gig and the Meltdown gig in London, and posted disagreeing with Davey and saying how gorgeous I though that her new sound was.Yesterday, the ever lovely Ms McCookerybook wrote to me supporting my point of view, and I found this review on her website. No doubt the debate will run and run.

And that, my dears, for today at least, is that.
I am going into Bideford to buy some Roquefort, get my ears syringed, and visit the off-license. Not necessarily in that order.
Toodle-pip!
