I'M YER GONZO BLOG DOO-DAH MAN

And so we have another day at the blograces. I am not firing on all four cylinders today; ignore me, I will be back on track soon. In the meantime I shall be reading '100' by Bill Drummond, and marvelling at what he has to say...

Following on from yesterday's newsletter from Iona, we have some live dates for Dave Bainbridge and Martin Nolan from the band. By the way, whilst on the subject of Iona, my old mate Richard Muirhead whom I have known for over 40 years, is a fan of the band and wrote to tell me how much he enjoyed heir last tour.

One of my watchwords is that the best pop music is three and a half minutes long and has no more than four chords. Michael Des Barres obviously agrees, as this blistering cover version of a T.Rex classic testifies. PS: Before I get accused of insulting those who write long form musical pieces, an awful lot of what we cover here is not pop music

I am always impressed by the sheer geographical spread of the reviews that I get sent of Gonzo artistes. I made my one and only Brazilian joke the other day and it was roundly ignored, so I won't repeat it. Here is a review of Rick Wakeman from the land of the Chacoan giant peccary.

Planet Rock continued its amazing year with yet another record breaking survey and even more listeners than ever. Many congratulations guys. You deserve it! Malcolm Bluemel, Planet Rock's Chairman and owner said "This is a fantastic result for all the team and proves there’s still a massive audience for great rock music. Next stop a million!”

The sixth annual SUNFLOWER JAM takes place on SUNDAY 16 SEPTEMBER at the ROYAL ALBERT HALL and there is a stellar line-up of rock and roll talent on show to raise money for a great cause. Host Jeremy Irons will be on hand once again to move marshall the proceedings, and the musical line-up this year is spectacular. Living Legends BRIAN MAY, BRUCE DICKINSON, IAN PAICE and JOHN PAUL JONES will all perform along with ALFIE BOE and MARK KING, who is appearing for the first time!

Dave Brock and Huw Lloyd-Langton, of Hawkwind, will next week turn out to support a fund-raising open mic event at Sidmouth Folk Week. The event, which has been organised by local students, is to be staged in Connaught Gardens and will be a showcase of local talent - featuring everything from singer/songwriters to metal acts.

And that is it for today. I am going off to hide...
