BIGFOOT DISTRIBUTION: American visualisation maps every recorded sighting of Bigfoot (except, it doesn't)

The Guardian blog writes that: 'Where is Bigfoot hiding? This interactive map, made by Ryan Robitalle, shows every recorded sighting of the mythical creature in the United States. The map was created using data from the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organisation, whose website contains detailed logs of Sasquatch sightings across the world. You can interact with the visualisation to explore the information in more detail. Click on a marker to see further details on that sighting, or browse reports by year or season.'

It is a remarkable piece of work, and my only criticism is with whoever subbed it at The Guardian, who claimed that it shows 'every recorded sighting of Bigfoot', when in fact it shows every sighting from the database of the BFRO. No slight is meant here towards Ryan Robitalle or the BFRO.

As far as I know it was Melba Ketcham's secretary that first made the remark That this was not every Bigfoot sighting but instead every BF sighting that BFRO had...

  2. Morning Dale,

Interesting map. Wish it was easier to read. I cant see many sighings reported in SE Iowa, where I know there is a large population of sas, and where I grew up reading and hearing many local bf reports.

It is interesting to see the big spike in sightings, which coincides with the internet Yahoo Groups bf craze. I suspect that many of these sightings were wannabe sightings of shadows, by folks that very badly wanted to be bf insiders. I could name some names, you could too.

There are two types of sightings. One is the gottcha sighting. A bf and a hiker or someone in a car, accidently comes across a bf, to the astonishment of both. These are the sightings that most often get reported.

Then researchers might go out to look at where he had been yesterday or last month.

The other type of sightings is between man and bf when both are expecting to be interacting with the other. These sightings are usualy kept quiet or shared with a very small circle of family and trusted friends.
