MUIRHEAD`S MYSTERIES: A YEREN STATUE IN A MACCLESFIELD ANTIQUE SHOP?

Hello! A short while ago I found an approximately 2 feet high statue, of a Yeren type hominid or Wild Man of the Woods, in the Aladdin`s Cave Antique Shop at 29 Park Lane, Macclesfield,SK11 6TJ. This was the same place I bought a jackalope, which I featured in my blog several weeks ago.

Garth the owner is selling this Wildman for £40 not including postage. My idea that it looks like the Yeren is based on this link: http://www.cryptomundo.com/wp-content/uploads/yeren11.jpg

Hello this is Devo

New ideas stupid moves
Nightmares or dreams come true

Mucho work minus play

Tension mounts in a twisted face
Dark clouds in the crystal ball
Tension mounts in a foreign place
The screw turns someone calls

That might well be intended as a Yeren, but it would be of modern and nontraditional manufacture. I posted an earlier blog which featured a very chimpanzee-like netsuke from Japan which would be the more traditional representational counterpart for the Hibagon sort of creature.

This is plainly a Wildman type, but it is pretty generic after that much. The image from cryptomundo is incidentally a drawing of a fullsized statue reconstruction of a Gigantopithecus. You would have to know if the maker of this statue intended for it to be a Yeren of the larger or smaller-sized sort.

"Classic" Yerens are supposed to be redheaded (all over) but I do think some reports describe them as being all-white (or all-black)

    Best Wishes, Dale D.
