On this day in 1703 Robert Hooke died. Hooke was a polymath who made scientific discoveries in physics (Hooke's law) and biology (his book Micrographia contains the first ever detailed drawings of the world seen though a microscope and he was the first to use the word 'cell' to describe a biological cell), Hooke was also Christopher Wren's right-hand man when it came to rebuilding London after the great fire of 1666.
