OLL LEWIS: Yesterday’s News Today

http://cryptozoologynews.blogspot.com/

On this day in 1921 Dick Van Dyke, star of Diagnosis Murder, was born (all right, it’s a very slow day for Fortean or at least mildly interesting things that happened on this day, but hey, there was a ghost in one episode of Diagnosis Murder, so it sort of counts, maybe, perhaps).
Ah, but the Fortean zoology news is a bit more interesting:

Minnesota man says motion-activated camera may have snapped Bigfoot
Out takes: Zoology professor gets great shot of Indri lemur in Madagascar
Animal's death puts Calgary zoo under microscope
Santa Penguins Wish Visitors A Flappy Xmas

Q: Why don’t penguins wear socks?
A: Because their webbed feet are too big.

Why, oh why don't people build motion-activated cameras which actually sample a video stream from a camera and incorporate a nifty feature called "pre-capture" on them?

There is a simple Linux program called Motion, which does just this; feed it a video stream from /dev/video0 (or wherever the video happens to be) and it'll monitor the stream for movement, record all movement seen according to pre-determined criteria, and even record what was happening just before and for a while after the trigger event. It'll even give you preview snaps and a timelapse video if you fancy.
