More news from the Storsjoodjuret Project

Summer expedition 2009

The time has finally come for our Summer expedition of 2009! A unique expedition is being performed during the 9th and 10th of july in order to explore the depths where the beast has been seen numerous occasions during the past years.

The expedition is located at Hoverberg. The mountain of Hoverberg has an interesting geology and holds Scandinavia´s largest rift cavern. According to geologist there is a possibility of a connection between the cave and the water of Storsjön and hopefully we will confirm these theories.

The equipment we are going to use is a Widescan Sonar from the company Deep Water Vision and a Seagoo ROV. A widescan Sonar is a device that sends out sound waves downwards in the water. The sound waves bounces of the bottom of the lake and returns to the device. In this way we can se exactly how the bottom of the lake is shaped. A Seagoo ROV is an underwater robot with a camera that we are going to use to, in detail, look at interesting things that the sonar has shown.
