I was just sent this by a blog reader called Betty:"On Monday I noticed this tree, covered in 'cobwebs'. Upon closer inspection it was covered in caterpillars - great fist sized lumps of them with many hanging in snake like threads. ALl the leaves have been eaten - it looks like a ghost tree. ANy idea what they are and how often this total obliteration of a tree happens. The caterpillars are still there and look like they are settling in for the next stage of life."
