The Gonzo Daily: Wednesday
George from the Pink Fairies has died, and all of us at Gonzo send our love
and blessings to his family and friends. He was a true original. I only met him
once but he made a huge impression on me, and I am sad to realise that I will
not meet him again this side of the rock and roll after party.
I returned from London late yesterday, acutely aware that I had been more
than secretive about it all.
OK now I can talk about it. I am sorry that I couldn't before, but there
was an embargo until yesterday (although several newspapers broke the embargo).
Most of what the newspapers say is true. Some isn't. but that's life:
1. CAPCOM, the video games company have launched a competition to find
evidence for the existence of a list often cryptids. There is a 50 grand reward.
I have been asked to adjudicate this competition, and pronounce a winner at the
end of June. Evidence has already started coming in, although I have not seen it
yet.
2. The £50,000 is NOT mine. I do not have such money, and truthfully I
never have. If I did have access to sums like that I would fix my roof. I am
dedicated to cryptozoology but not THAT dedicated.
3. I have been in London for the past few days with Graham pushing me
around the "Teeming Metropolis" in my wheelchair. I conducted a whole string of
radio shows about the CAPCOM compy. And in the meantime I also plugged the CFZ,
and OTT.
4. A few weeks ago. Graham, Charlotte and I took a party of journalists,
and CAPCOM executives out to a location where a whole string of sightings of
what appear to be a big cat have been made. We instructed them in the royal and
ancient art of collecting hair samples, and setting out sand traps. Much to our
great pleasure an interesting skeleton was found.
5. The skeleton is of a large and elderly sheep, and presents some
interesting points:
a. There are no knife or hatchet marks on the bones and o signs that it
was butchered
b. The front of the muzzle is damaged, suggesting that the assailant may
have clamped its jaws over the muzzle of the sheep to subdue it by
suffocation. This is something that is habitually done by various felids.
c. The sheep was too big to have been carried by a fox
d. The bones are too intact to have been predated by a badger
e. If the killing had been by a dog, the animal would have ben torn
apart in situ, and there are no sheep for a considerable
distance
f. The investigation is ongoing.

* Jon Downes, the Editor of all these ventures (and several others) is an
old hippy of 58 who - together with a Jack Russell called Archie, an infantile
orange cat named after a song by Frank Zappa, and two half grown kittens, one
totally coincidentally named after one of the Manson Family, purely because she
squeaks, puts it all together from a converted potato shed in a tumbledown
cottage deep in rural Devon which he shares with various fish. He is ably
assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his bulldog/boxer Prudence, his elderly
mother-in-law, and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we
mention Archie and the Cats?
