You will probably have noticed that in recent weeks I have
been very quiet on the subject of the forthcoming Weird Weekend. That was because, until about half-an-hour
ago, there was a very real possibility that I would have had to cancel this
year’s event, which would almost certainly have meant that the event itself
would have come to an end after 14 years.
It was not because of poor ticket sales, although I have
said on a number of occasions, ticket sales for this year are significantly
down. It was because of a whole series
of other complications. Because of
internal village politics that are of no interest to anybody living outside the
parish, the ladies who have been doing such a lovely job with the catering for
the event for quite a few years now, are not able to do it this year. And so I asked our friends from the Small School
in Hartland to take over the catering.
I was not aware that, according to the Village Hall’s
regulations, there is a surcharge for
people, apart from certain village organisations, using the facilities, and I
needed to find out whether this was something which I would be able to
afford. It has taken a fortnight to find
this information, but we are now out of the woods, and I can happily announce
the non-arrival of the bad news I have been dreading telling you all.
We now have just over two months to go, and I have got the
bit between my teeth, and my team and I are hitting the ground running. Let’s make this the best Weird Weekend
ever.
