On this day in 1952 the most important game designer of all time, Shigeru Miyamoto, was born. Miyamoto has created numerous game franchises, including Mario and the Legend of Zelda, that not only continue to be the most popular and profitable game franchises to this day but in many cases invented whole genres of games. He was also the mentor of Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of Pokemon.
