It is another gloriously sunny day here today; Graham will hopefully have finished the roof repairs by the end of the day, and we shall be prepared for the next bout of rainy chaos. All things being equal, we shall go away for a few days tomorrow. We will be taking mama-in-law back to Oakham, and staying with her for a few days so we settle her back in. Therefore, I shall be doing all my bloggystuff on my old laptop, so normal service may be disrupted for a while...I have only been in Los Angeles twice; both times just the airport as I was in transit to somewhere else. I still smoked in those days, and after a mammoth transatlantic journey I was gasping for a fag, and so I went in to the bar, ordered a beer and took my B&H out of my pocket. The next thing I knew, a security guard had pulled a gun on me. It was not an impressive start to my relationship with the City of Angels, but I would go through it all again to be able to see one of Michael Des Barres legendary live shows in support of the 'Carnaby Street' album...

After nearly ten years of publication, my favourite magazine has ceased to be. I was really fond of 'The Word' even though they kept on refusing to print anything by me. I did think that they had lost their way a bit in recent years, but it was still the best monthly read for people with my tastes, and I shall miss it sorely.

I have been promising to write a review of Helen McCookerybook's incisive investigation into the role that women played in the British Punk Rock movement for some time. It is an extraordinary book, that covers some aspects of music historiography that are very dear to me. I hope that each and every one of you goes out and buys it. Yes. I mean YOU!

Watching the comings and goings within 'Yes' is a fascinating occupation for those of us who enjoy such things. Bizarrely, despite recent events, both Chris Squire and Jon Anderson seem to be keeping the door open for some sort of reunion. Both parties are creating some great music at the moment, and it will be interesting to see what happens.

I was really enjoying following the progress of the story that we posted the other day, where organisers of a festival apparently claimed that followers of Hawkwind are a socially undesirable bunch. Having shared my house with a Hawkwind freak for many years I can say that this ain't necessarily so. However, now the aforementioned festival organisers have retracted the statement. Awwww. I was so looking forward to seeing how things panned out.
