I would probably have been predisposed to have given this book a positive review because it comes complete with endorsements from Nick Redfern and Neil Arnold, but now it has a glowing endorsement from me as well: it is a cracker!
The first in (I hope) a long series, this tells the story of a young Welsh boy thrown by tragedy into a maelstrom of historic horror. It has more than its fare share of stuff for the crypto-enthusiast, including dragons and a massive mystery cat, but what is most impressive as far as I am concerned is the way that the day to day nightmare of being an adolescent schoolboy is interplayed with the ancient battle of wills being played out around the young protagonist of the novel. In this way it occupies much the same ground as Richard Freeman's book of short stories, which is out any day now.
This is a masterful book, and I for one cannot wait for the sequel(s). JD
