CARL PORTMAN Vs The White Squirrel

Jon,

Whilst going through some very old archive photographs on a CD I came across this. I recall taking it from distance on an old camera (pre-digital days) and it's a famed 'white squirrel' from Pevensey in Eastbourne.

I saw it with my own eyes and almost couldn't believe it.

Anyway - it's unusual for sure.

  1. On a more prosaic note, unusually coloured rabbits are actually quite common; I have twice seen an almost black specimen who lives up on the canal side east of Burnley; I have photos of another one near the ruins of the prehistoric village of Skara Brae (inspiration for Tolkein's hobbit houses).

There is also a superstition amongst shooters, at least in Scotland, that it is unlucky to shoot a black rabbit, equating the black colour to the robes of a clergyman.
