I have always been fascinated by the tiny British overseas territory (we are not allowed to call them colonies any more) of Tristan da Cunha and its 275 inhabitants. Its
history makes fascinating reading. The story of how, in 1961, a volcanic eruption forced the entire population to be rehoused in a disused RAF station in Hampshire for over a year, is particularly poignant.
