CAN YOU IDENTIFY THESE FOOTPRINTS?

Glen Vaudrey sent these: they were taken on 1/12/10 in snow the depth of the snow was around 1 inch, the prints appeared to be webbed and the animal had dragged its tail in the snow. The photo was taken on a pathway at the edge of a nature reserve and between two large expanses of fresh water the trail cuts strait across the path into undergrowth on either side.

  1. As these pictures are from the Cheshire area, I would hazard a guess at an Otter being the culprit.

    Otter, most likely.

Slightly different topic, I have ol'Cooney tracks on my front porch in the snow and his forepaws are about two inches across. How big of a raccoon would ypou make that out to be?
(My cat Katze hates Cooney. Everytime I start to feed Katze, any time of the day, Katze will look off the South end of the porch and check out the view due West. That is the way old Cooney comes, right over our back fence and right by the garbage cans first. But Cooney will not show up on ordinary daylight hours so Katze is over-reacting)
