I ordered Micheal Woodley's book after seeing the review (very good book btw) but it seems to be having a strange effect on the kittens. The small one, 4 months, attacks the cover everytime she sees me reading it and the older one, now nearly a year old, grabs the spine of the book and tries to chew it.
No other books have this effect on them. I have the CFZ yearbook, which I have been dipping into (again, excellent) but they ignore that. They ignore all other books but for some reason the sea monster book makes them want to attack it! It came from Amazon like most of my books so it isn't that; they know the smell of the books from Amazon. So what have you done to the book? I can only presume it is the cover illustration.
Maybe it looks like something to the cats that they chase or the blue colour (though not sure if cats see colour). Any thoughts from the CFZ community?
Love to all,

Whenever I was reading, my dear departed kitty, Spock, used to love attacking and biting a bookmark I had which came from the Norwegian Church in Cardiff Bay.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't attack other items in the same way. I always believed that there was something about the design on the bookmark - a stylised Viking longboat with a dragon's head - that appealed to him.
A couple of years ago, I lost my bag on the train. It contained a CD walkman (this was before I had an iPod) and mobile phone. But I couldn't care less about those. What really upset me was that I lost that bookmark - complete with all Spock's bite marks - which was in a book I had been reading.
Are they offended at Woodley's suggestion (Five Questions on... Cryptozoology) that the Surrey Puma is "probably just a fat moggy"?
ReplyDeleteIt could be that the printers or print finishers (binders) have used a different adhesive. Possibly they are using or have been testing an animal or fish based glue rather than a chemical based PVA adhesive.
ReplyDeleteI think G is right it is the picture. It looks like a worm I suppose lol. It may also be the appearance of water on the cover too.
ReplyDeleteSorry about Spock , I know what it is like to lose a dearly loved cat .The kittens are replacements for two lost boys who are buried in the garden. I couldn't stand the house without a cat.
I think Jon would be able to find the answer to your suggestion Syd. All I can say to greatbeast is lol.
