Hi Jon,
I thought you and the CFZ members would be interested in the following.
http://www.threeowls.co.uk/sosappeal.htmlIt appears that the local (Rochdale) council (in their total lunacy) are attempting to now classify this bird welfare sanctuary, which has been around for close on 50 years, as a zoo. If the damn fools on Rochdale council get away with this it could possibly have a knock-on effect on other wildlife sanctuaries and organisations such as Beth's rescue centre and even the CFZ itself.
Regards,
Syd Henley
In case any one was wondering TOBS stands for Three Owls Bird Sanctuary and is a registered charity. I have visited this wonderful place myself several times; most recently this past March. It could never be classed as a zoo by an intelligent person except for financial, beaurocratic reasons. The gentleman who runs needs (as do the CFZ and all organisations like us) badly need donations to stay open. For more details on Three Owls, or information on how to donate or visit, if ever you're in our neck of the woods, please visit http://www.threeowls.co.uk/
ReplyDeleteThanks, Liz Clancy
Not being familiar with the exact circumstances, what's the downside to classing it as a zoo?
ReplyDeleteP.S. Rather fittingly, 'gentleman who runs' Three Owls is called Nigel Fowler :)
ReplyDeleteIf classed as a zoo the licence fee needed to keep animals would be much higher, I think, and the sanctuary are already struggling financially
