LAIR OF THE WHITE WORMS

A friend of Richard Freeman's found this on an angling website. I have made no changes to the spelling or grammar:

"I was diving in Wast Water, Wasdale, Cumbria and found thousands ofweird bright white eels about a foot to a foot and a half long. Twas anight dive and our approaching torches made the eels stick their headinto the mud to avoid our light. They didn't have any fin on thierback as i remember. Any one any idea what they could be? I thoughtthese could be some ancient fish trapped along with the Artic Char inCumrias deep waters or are they just another wierd Lamprey typecreature? I didn't notice if they had teeth or even a jaw. Anyfeedback most welcome. Dave"

This is being followed up. More news as we get it...

Black Dogs
At Northorpe a black dog was said to haunt the church- yard, which went by the well-known name of the Bargest (much like the one in north Yorkshire). At another village somewhat further off, there was an old lame man, who was reputed to be a wizard, and who, it was affirmed, was in the habit of turning himself into a dog and biting cattle. A neighbour of his is reported to have seen, on one occasion, a black dog biting his cattle, and, running to the rescue, beheld it turned into the old wizard.

MORE BEETLE RELATED TOMFOOLERY

The other day we published a picture of a beetle sent by Aubrey Menezes in Canada. He wanted an identification. Robert Schneck (who I hope has forgiven us for a lack of Biggles related postings) sent us this picture, and wrote: "I found this picture of an ox beetle that is similar to the dried beetle in the picture". What do you think guys?
