The next field is usually full of them. (Cregneash sometimes only has a couple)

Actually springtime about May is a good time to come and see loughtan sheep as the lambs are very cute, very lively, chocolate brown and with little spiky horns when they get a bit older.

One more thing about them. Loughtans are much livelier and tougher than your standard white sheep. They are pretty rugged and intelligent, and hardier, and able to cope with the weather in the British Isles. They are native 'Iron Age 'sheep; like the hebridean ones, not like the white sheep which are middle eastern in origin I believe.
Also the meat is healthier, more like game.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16458983477263293779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16505569.post-37329601575198993312010-11-22T14:57:49.413+00:002010-11-22T14:57:49.413+00:00It's pronounced Manx Lock-tun. And though they are rare, there is a very active Breeders' Group - see us on www.manxloaghtansheep.org

I don't know of any in the US or Autralia, but they are native to the Isle of Man (between England and Ireland)and there are quite a few flocks on mainland Britain as well. If you visit the Isle of Man, go to the National Folk Museaum at Cregneash.Manx Loaghtan Sheep Breeders' Grouphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11577355444427198567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16505569.post-50708739854623790052010-10-04T19:02:24.940+01:002010-10-04T19:02:24.940+01:00"Lockton" is the correct pronunciation :..."Lockton" is the correct pronunciation :)C-E Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01587050412146604186noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16505569.post-80805766576487432232010-09-24T06:23:56.357+01:002010-09-24T06:23:56.357+01:00Lo-tan mebbe?Lo-tan mebbe?RRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01356637045838562794noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16505569.post-60496823690062852552010-09-23T12:34:41.455+01:002010-09-23T12:34:41.455+01:00Jon's come-on that the name was unpronounceabl...Jon's come-on that the name was unpronounceable was a challenge I could not resist and so I came to this blog right off

It's pronounced something like "looten" is it?

Otherwise I've seen such things at the petting zoo and they can come from more than one place. I believe there is a four-horned goat used in one of the Canary Islands location shots in Raquel Welch's One Million Years BC. The four-horned mutation can apparantly be independantly replicated.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
