Mother's funeral went off very well on Friday, with much love displayed for a remarkable woman. The only weak poi nt in the whole affair was my increasing decrepitude. Many thanks to all of you who came, particularly Dan Taylor who acted as a human zimmer frame and - together with Carl - managed to scoop me from the reception into the car with the majority of my dignity still intact. Thank you very much my dear fellow. The three small children who used to sit on my knee playing Zoo Tycoon have grown into fine young men and women, and I hope you all know that I love you. Bloody hell I am being soppy today.

* Jon Downes, the Editor of all these ventures (and several others) is an old hippy of 60 who - together with a Jack Russell called Archie, an infantile orange cat named after a song by Frank Zappa, three other cats, one totally coincidentally named after one of the Manson Family, purely because she squeaks, puts it all together from a converted potato shed in a tumbledown cottage deep in rural Devon which he shares with various fish. He is ably assisted by his lovely wife Corinna and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we mention Archie and the Cats?
