We are now existing in a strange, twilight world, where I have never been before. It is a world of undertakers, funeral directors (not the same thing, as I discovered yesterday), medical certificates, death certificates and cremation certificates. I never realised it was all so complicated. No wonder some old people quietly decline to register their spouse's death: It is not, as the papers claim, so they can continue to fraudulently draw the aforementioned spouse's state pension. It is merely so they can avoid doing all the paperwork.

Thank you to all of you who have sent kind words and prayers to us following Mother's death. They are very much appreciated. Please forgive us for keeping a low profile at the moment.

Dear Friends,

This is another of those issues in which I have been overtaken by events. Corinna was unexpectedly and urgently admitted to hospital on Thursday afternoon, and subsequently has operations on both her kidneys. If her obs improve markedly she may be out on Monday but we are not counting on it.

Her latest blood results show no change, but whether or not there should have been changes twelve hours after the operation I cannot comment. She appears to be in good spirits. Once again, thank you for all your kind comments and support I am going to try and keep the blogs and things going, and I hope that you will forgive me both for the lateness of this issue, and for the fact that the news pages, radio shows and the clickable links are missing.

I will keep everyone posted about what is happening, and I would like to think that the next issue of this magazine will come out more or less on schedule

Many of you have told me to forget about everything else but Corinna until she is out of hospital, but leaving things that need to be done is bad for my mental health, so I will work as much as I can, as much for my own sanity than for any other reason. But again thank you for all that you have done for us.

There is also a collection of more news, reviews, views, interviews and antichinuses who have lost their shoes (OK, nothing to do with tiny marsupials who are searching for their footwear, but I got carried away with things that rhymed with OOOOS) than you can shake a stick at. * Jon Downes, the Editor of all these ventures (and several others) is an old hippy of 60 who - together with a Jack Russell called Archie, an infantile orange cat named after a song by Frank Zappa, three other cats, one totally coincidentally named after one of the Manson Family, purely because she squeaks, puts it all together from a converted potato shed in a tumbledown cottage deep in rural Devon which he shares with various fish. He is ably assisted by his lovely wife Corinna and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we mention Archie and the Cats?

The hunt for British Big Cats attracts far more newspaper-column inches than any other cryptozoological subject.

There are so many of them now that we feel that they should be archived by us in some way, so we are publishing a regular round-up of the stories as they come in.

The worldwide mystery cat phenomenon (or group of phenomena, if we are to be more accurate) is not JUST about cryptozoology. At its most basic level it is about the relationship between our species and various species of larger cat. That is why sometimes you will read stories here that appear to have nothing to do with cryptozoology but have everything to do with human/big cat interaction. As committed Forteans, we believe that until we understand the nature of these interactions, we have no hope of understanding the truth that we are seeking.
