The Gonzo Daily: Friday/Saturday
And so we come to the end of another week, and just as happened last week,
it truly seems that the world is weirder now than it was seven days ago. I know
that I bang on about it quite a lot, but it truly feels like the Justified
Ancients of Mu Mu were on the nail when they welcomed us all to the dark ages
last month. The world does seem to be slipping into a very peculiar place much
faster than one would have thought possible even a year ago.
Ever since I read ‘A Canticle for Leibowitz’ by Walter Miller Jr. the idea
for an impending dark age has been very lodged in my consciousness, and so
Messrs, Drummond and Cauty only underlined what I have been thinking for years.
But then again, they always did. And, what the rest of us have to do, is more
and more self evident.
Most of us cannot hope to influence events on the national or world stage.
Our countries are largely run by idiots, and self-serving lunatics who have
agendas of their own, which have nothing at all to do with making the lives of
the rest of us any better. Therefore, what we must do is to look after each
other. This week I wrote about the death of an old friend of mine, and was very
touched to receive several emails from relative strangers commiserating with me.
Another acquaintance of mine lost her mother very suddenly a week or so back,
and on twitter yesterday posted how lucky she felt to be surrounded by so many
sweet and supportive friends, many of whom she didn’t even I know. These are
examples of what we need to do.
The world may be going to hell in a hand basket, but if we all treat each
other like decent human beings, rather than with suspicion and bitterness,
things are going to work out better for the human race than anybody could
possibly imagine looking at the world’s situation as it is now. Basically, boys
and girls, all you need is love! But I think somebody else said that a long time
ago.
Forgive me for banging on about our webTV show, but it matters a lot to me,
and I would be grateful for an many people as possible to see it, and spread the
tidings of it far and wide:
But now, here is the news:

SPECIAL NOTICE: If you, too, want to unleash the power of your inner rock
journalist, and want to join a rapidly growing band of likewise minded weirdos
please email me at jon@eclipse.co.uk The more the merrier really.
* The Gonzo Daily is a two way process. If you have any news or want to
write for us, please contact me at jon@eclipse.co.uk. If you are an artist and
want to showcase your work, or even just say hello please write to me at
gonzo@cfz.org.uk. Please copy, paste and spread the word about this magazine as
widely as possible. We need people to read us in order to grow, and as soon as
it is viable we shall be invading more traditional magaziney areas. Join in the
fun, spread the word, and maybe if we all chant loud enough we CAN stop it
raining. See you tomorrow...
* The Gonzo Daily is - as the name implies - a daily online magazine
(mostly) about artists connected to the Gonzo Multimedia group of companies. But
it also has other stuff as and when the editor feels like it. The same team also
do a weekly newsletter called - imaginatively - The Gonzo Weekly. Find out about
it at this link: www.gonzo-multimedia.blogspot.co.uk
* We should probably mention here, that some of our posts are links to
things we have found on the internet that we think are of interest. We are not
responsible for spelling or factual errors in other people's websites. Honest
guv!
* Jon Downes, the Editor of all these ventures (and several others) is an
old hippy of 58 who - together with a Jack Russell called Archie, an infantile
orange cat named after a song by Frank Zappa, and two half grown kittens, one
totally coincidentally named after one of the Manson Family, purely because she
squeaks, puts it all together from a converted potato shed in a tumbledown
cottage deep in rural Devon which he shares with various fish. He is ably
assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his bulldog/boxer Prudence, his elderly
mother-in-law, and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we
mention Archie and the Cats?
