The Gonzo Daily: Monday/Tuesday
And so, another week dawns. It is, however, a bank holiday here in the UK
so I am taking things a little easier than usual, whatever that means! For those
of you who are interested in the comings and goings of British butterflies,
there was some exciting news in my inbox today; sightings of two extremely rare
species on the south coast! Long tailed blues have been seen in both Kent and
Sussex this month. You may remember me getting massively excited about them a
few years ago, when, for the first time since the 1940s, they arrived on our
shores in relatively large numbers and even bred for a few months.
The other rare butterfly is the Queen of Spain fritillary, a species which
Patrick Barkham has hypothesised will become the next bona fide British
resident. The last few years have been disappointing ones, as far as out of
place butterflies are concerned, and so these latest reports are particularly
welcome.
On a personal level I would be very grateful if you could spread the word
about our rebooted monthly webTV series after a break of nearly four years. I
actually hadn't realised it had been so long, but - then again - my concepts of
time and space are fairly abstract at the best of times.

orange cat named after a song by Frank Zappa, and two half grown kittens, one
totally coincidentally named after one of the Manson Family, purely because she
squeaks, puts it all together from a converted potato shed in a tumbledown
cottage deep in rural Devon which he shares with various fish. He is ably
assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his bulldog/boxer Prudence, his elderly
mother-in-law, and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we
mention Archie and the Cats?
