The Gonzo Daily – Thursday
Today is another one of those days when my mind has gone annoyingly blank,
and I can think of very little to actually put into today’s bloggy thing. This
is probably a good time to draw the line under a good couple of minor
quasi-Cryptozoological stories which I have posted over the last week. The first
concerns the sighting of a hippopotamus photographed in the boating pond at
Bushy Park, Teddington. According to the newspapers it isn’t real. It was a
remote controlled boat cunningly fashioned to make it look like a hippopotamus.
Well of course it was! I truly cant believe that anyone could have been so
stupid, or should that be gullible, to actually believe that an animal the size
of a hippo could live undetected in London.
The second is a little more puzzling. A few weeks ago we published the
story of a strange creature photographed in a sea crave in Corfu. I’d thought
that it was the aborted foetus of a whale of some description. Our old friend
Darren Naish has suggested that it is the fender of a low profile boat made of
PBC. This is an explanation of which I am quite happy to agree.

* Jon Downes, the Editor of all these ventures (and several others) is an
old hippy of 56 who - together with an infantile orange cat named after a song
by Frank Zappa, and a small kitten totally coincidentally named after one of the
Manson Family, purely because she squeaks, puts it all together from a converted
potato shed in a tumbledown cottage deep in rural Devon which he shares with
various fish, and sometimes a young lady called Jessica. He is ably assisted by
his lovely wife Corinna, his bulldog/boxer Prudence, his elderly mother-in-law,
and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we mention the
infantile orange cat, and the adventurous kitten?
