TODAY'S BIG CAT NEWS
The hunt for British Big Cats attracts far more newspaper-column inches than any other cryptozoological subject.
There are so many of them now that we feel that they should be archived by us in some way, so we are publishing a regular round-up of the stories as they come in.
The worldwide mystery cat phenomenon (or group of phenomena, if we are to be more accurate) is not JUST about cryptozoology. At its most basic level it is about the relationship between our species and various species of larger cat. That is why sometimes you will read stories here that appear to have nothing to do with cryptozoology but have everything to do with human/big cat interaction. As committed Forteans, we believe that until we understand the nature of these interactions, we have no hope of understanding the truth that we are seeking.

FORTEAN BIRDS NEWS FROM THE WATCHER OF THE SKIES
What has Corinna's column of Fortean bird news got to do with cryptozoology?
Well, everything, actually!
Well, everything, actually!
In an article for the first edition of Cryptozoology Bernard Heuvelmans wrote that cryptozoology is the study of 'unexpected animals' and following on from that perfectly reasonable assertion, it seems to us that whereas the study of out-of-place birds may not have the glamour of the hunt for bigfoot or lake monsters, it is still a perfectly valid area for the Fortean zoologist to be interested in.
NESSIENEWS (Caveat Lector)
Australian Adventurers Capture Loch Ness Monster
A pair of Australian adventurers have captured, in a photograph, this incredible image of the Loch Ness monster.
Geoffrey McSkimming, noted adventurer, world-traveller, raconteur and author, best known for the Cairo Jim and Phyllis Wong Mystery series of children’s adventure stories, and companion and fellow adventurer, Sue-Anne Webster, actress and freelancemagician extraordinaire, were celebrating Sue-Anne’s birthday on the misty shores of Loch Ness, in Inverness, Scotland, when legendary lost dinosaur Nessie photo-bombed the happy snap.
Geoffrey reports that the pair had no idea the mysterious denizen of the deep was behind them, “Not until after we took the photo…oh my gosh! No! I swear when I took this photo there was nothing in the water.”
“No, there wasn’t when I looked either…she’s a teaser,” added Sue-Anne.
Moderate cat ladies urged to condemn extremist cat ladies
After days of terror where gangs of cats peed in neighbour’s gardens and bailed up dogs while the cats owners chanted ‘cats are great!’, moderate cat ladies have been urged to condemn extremist cat ladies.
The attacks seemed to be in retaliation to an unflattering depiction of a cat in the latest issue of the Harold Kennel Club’s monthly magazine, but most villagers say a poorly drawn cat by a dog owner can never be an excuse for a feline rampage.
Harold Mayor Rufus D Jackson appealed for calm saying that while the actions of extremist cat ladies were abhorrent and should be condemned, cat ownership itself is a peaceful pastime, and society will be stronger if cat owners and dog owners stand united against extremism in all its forms.
Mayor Jackson pointed out that Sally Evans, the hero of the siege at 44 Blumley Way, was herself a cat owner, and her quick thinking in luring 28 cats away with a bag of Purina One (turkey flavour) saved three nervous Labradors substantial further humiliation.
The Mayor’s speech was politely received, but opinion in the village remains polarised.
“I don’t know – is there really such a thing as a moderate cat lady?” said Councillor Ron Ronsson, who changed his Facebook picture to ‘I am a dog’.
“They might start with just one or two kittens, but then they become radicalised online by viewing 1,000s of cute cat pictures. Before they know it they have 20 plus cats and the shortage of cat litter means they all jump the neighbour’s fence and pee in their sandpit.”

Yesterday Corinna, Mother, Shoshannah and Gavin all
went oput to spend a day in Barnstaple, which ended up in them going to the
cinema tp see a marathon three movies back to back. Graham, the dogs and I
stayed at home. I pottered, snoozed, read more of the new Robert Wyatt biography
by Marcus O'Dair, which I soundtracked by listening to Matching Mole and Rock
Bottom until everyone came back full of stirring tales of what had happened
(which I believe they made mostly up). A nice day.

* The Gonzo Daily is - as the name implies - a daily online magazine
(mostly) about artists connected to the Gonzo Multimedia group of companies. But
it also has other stuff as and when the editor feels like it. The same team also
do a weekly newsletter called - imaginatively - The Gonzo Weekly. Find out about
it at this link: www.gonzo-multimedia.blogspot.com/…/all-gonzo-news-wots-fit…
* We should probably mention here, that some of our posts are links to
things we have found on the internet that we think are of interest. We are not
responsible for spelling or factual errors in other people's websites. Honest

* Jon Downes, the Editor of all these ventures (and several others) is an
old hippy of 55 who - together with an infantile orange cat named after a song
by Frank Zappa puts it all together from a converted potato shed in a tumbledown
cottage deep in rural Devon which he shares with various fish, and sometimes a
small Indian frog. He is ably assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his
bulldog/boxer Prudence, his elderly mother-in-law, and a motley collection of
social malcontents. Plus.. did we mention the infantile orange cat?
