FORTEAN BIRD NEWS FROM THE WATCHER OF THE SKIES
What has Corinna's column of fortean bird news got to do with Cryptozoology?
Well, everything actually!
In an article for the first edition of Cryptozoology Bernard Heuvelmans wrote that cryptozoology is the study of 'unexpected animals' and following on from that perfectly reasonable assertion, it seems to us that whereas the study of out-of-place birds may not have the glamour of the hunt for bigfoot or lake monsters, it is still a perfectly valid area for the Fortean zoologist to be interested in.

TODAY'S BIG CAT ROUND UP
The hunt for British Big Cats attracts far more newspaper-column inches than any other cryptozoological subject.
There are so many of them now that we feel that they should be archived by us in some way, so we are publishing a regular round-up of the stories as they come in.
The worldwide mystery cat phenomenon (or group of phenomena, if we are to be more accurate) is not JUST about cryptozoology. At its most basic level it is about the relationship between our species and various species of larger cat. That is why sometimes you will read stories here that appear to have nothing to do with cryptozoology but have everything to do with human/big cat interaction. As committed Forteans, we believe that until we understand the nature of these interactions, we have no hope of understanding the truth that we are seeking.

THE GONZO BLOG DOO-DAH MAN SLEPT FOR MOST OF YESTERDAY
The Gonzo Daily - Monday
* The Gonzo Daily is a two way process. If you have any news or want to write for us, please contact me at jon@eclipse.co.uk. If you are an artist and want to showcase your work, or even just say hello please write to me at gonzo@cfz.org.uk. Please copy, paste and spread the word about this magazine as widely as possible. We need people to read us in order to grow, and as soon as it is viable we shall be invading more traditional magaziney areas. Join in the fun, spread the word, and maybe if we all chant loud enough we CAN stop it raining. See you tomorrow...
* The Gonzo Daily is - as the name implies - a daily online magazine (mostly) about artists connected to the Gonzo Multimedia group of companies. But it also has other stuff as and when the editor feels like it. The same team also do a weekly newsletter called - imaginatively - The Gonzo Weekly. Find out about it at this link: www.gonzo-multimedia.blogspot.com/2012/11/all-gonzo-news-wots-fit-to-print.html
I am not having a good day today. Archie got over
excited and nipped the postman, and I had to use all my reserves of tact to
avoid an unpleasant scene. At least I bloody well hope I have avoided one!
(Touch Wood) I also got an irate e-mail from someone complaining that a photo of
me from 1999 which happens to be in my Facebook pictures folder shows me with a
cigarette in my mouth. What sort of an example am I giving to young people? he
asks. By smoking in public (even fifteen years after the fact) I am apparently
bringing the CFZ into disrepute. In one way the instant communication afforded
by things like Facebook is a good thing; it brings the concept of the Global
Village which idealistic young hippies like me espoused forty years ago one step
nearer. But on another level it is a terrible thing, because its very immediacy
lulls people into a false sense of feeling that people who are basically
strangers, or vague acquaintances at best, are close friends.
Every week in my capacity of ringmaster of the CFZ
circus I get at least one complaint from somebody within the CFZ family,
concerned about the Facebook activities of another member or members. This is
usually accompanied by the complainer suggesting that the activity in question
is bringing the CFZ into disrepute. The complaints are usually about political
or religious statements, or postings with sexual content. What people don't seem
to understand is that the CFZ is a loose confederation of people interested in
cryptozoology and its allied disciplines, animal welfare, animal rescue and the
broad concept of encouraging young people to be interested in Natural History.
It is a broad church, and members/affiliates come from a wide range of social,
ethnic, political and religious backgrounds. If someone makes a post about their
paganism, Christian fundamentalism or anything else, or if they post pictures of
simpering dolly birds in miniscule bikinis it is their own business. It is
nothing to do with the CFZ or me personally, and even if I wanted to I couldn't
do anything about it.
Please stop complaining to me about these things.
All it does is upset me, and give me yet more stress that I would so much rather
do without. I am not going to kick someone out of the CFZ for boasting about
their sexual conquests, having some soft porn actress on their friends list,
making anti or pro republican/conservative party statements or being anti or pro
some religion or other, so please stop asking. If you don't like what other
people say on Facebook, just block them. That is what I do!
Enough bellyaching for today. On with the
blogs.

This week's issue of The Gonzo Weekly is here, and
features Hawkwind, Hawkwind, and some more Hawkwind, plus exclusive interviews
with two musical legends - Keith Levene (ex-PiL and The Clash) and Judy Dyble
(founder member of Fairport Convention and the band that was later to become
King Crimson), plus stories on Mike Rutherford, Acid Mothers Temple, Devo, Paul
Whitrow, and the world premiere of new videos by Auburn and Galahad, and more
news, reviews, views, interviews and packets of long nosed potoroos (OK, no
special rabbit-sized macropodiformes, especially in convenient packaging) but I
got carried away with things that rhymed with OOOOS) than you can shake a stick
at. And the best part is IT's ABSOLUTELY FREE!!!

reason known only to the Gods of the internet, some e-mail programmes

He is ably assisted by his lovely wife Corinna, his bulldog/boxer Prudence, his elderly mother-in-law, and a motley collection of social malcontents. Plus.. did we mention the orange cat?

A word about cryptolinks: we are not responsible for the content of cryptolinks, which are merely links to outside articles that we think are interesting (sometimes for the wrong reasons), usually posted up without any comment whatsoever from me.
Oh, wow. The audio you're about to hear at the beginning of this clip is so ridiculous, it was put there to make us laugh. The tracks are impressive, but it would have been more believable if the vocalizations were left out.
